This LBV (Late Bottle Vintage) Port is from Quinta do Infantado, Pinhao. All the Infantado vineyards are class A (the best in DouroValley) and the grapes are still by tradition trodden by foot and fermented in the traditional lagares. Fermentation lasts longer than many estates resulting in drier wines. 77% abv wine brandy is used to stop fermentation and the LBV is aged for 45 months in 100 year old, 250 hectolitre casks before being bottled unfiltered. The 2007 is dark in colour, with youthful, fresh aromas of red berries, spice and chocolate. The palate has rich, ripe flavours of black cherry, strawberry and mocha which are supported by fine textured tannins and fresh acidity. The elegant, long finish displays plum, spice and liquorice complexity, with a touch of vanilla from ageing in oak vats.
